Race Plans

16 Jan

I was putting off the scheduling of my big races for 2011 because of the uncertainty of the late spring and summer. I was talking to my best friend in Colorado, Cakie, yesterday and she asked me to run her first half marathon with her! It’s the Rock ‘n Roll Denver Half which I’ve been dying to do for years now 🙂 There are 2 major issues with this race: 1. High Altitude and 2-I’ll need to be training in Texas in August and September… HOT! Nevertheless, it’s not for me, it’s for her! And she promised to walk if I start dying of high altitude sickness hehe.

So, that spurred me into action. I’ve decided on the following:

(*=maybe)

1. Super Sunday 10K* – Feb 6 – Boston, MA

2. Ocean Drive 10 mi – Mar 27 – Cape May, NJ

3. Cambridge 5 mi* – April 6 – Cambridge, MA

4. NJ 1/2 Marathon – May 1 – Long Branch, NJ

I’m excited!!

Other than chatting with my BFF yesterday, I spent the morning sipping Starbucks and doing Spanish homework in the Student Center by Sean. I hit up the gym for a treadmill/track run of 5 miles, and then relaxed the afternoon away! It was a pretty great day.

Friday night at the Senior Blacktie event was pretty fun! I don’t know why, but our friend kept wanting to hang out in this little back room where there were only a few of her friends. My favorite part was being out in the crowd and seeing people from class! It made Olga and I want to spend more time this semester with different people they we WANT to see! I also think we’re going to incorporate more movie nights into the equation.

*I don’t have pictures yet but I will post them when I do!

Last night was low key. After tacos with Sean, Olga, Matt, and I went over to his place to hang out. We were going to go to the bar but it ended up being late when we were ready to go. I always have fun just hanging out with my friends! We watched “Valentine’s Day” – and now that I’m thinking of it, that counts as Movie Night #1 of the Semester!

I plan to get some work done and then go to work to train a client later. Looking for to…

JETS and GOLDEN GLOBES!

See ya!

2010 Running Reflection

Miles by Month

In 2010 I ran 8 races!

  1. March: Ocean Drive 10 mile race – with: Dad – 1:37:17 (9:44)
  2. April: Jersey Shore Marathon Relay – with: Dad, Kait, Chris – ran approx 6 mile and 1.5 mile legs
  3. May: Rumson Mother’s Day 5 Mile – with: Dad, Mike (Kiera Mom Tom and Billy did the walk) – PR! 42:21 (8:29)
  4. June: Avon 5K – with Sean – very hot and slow! 27:50 (8:59)
  5. August: Sea Girt 5k – with Dad – 26:36 (8:35)
  6. October: Boston Half Marathon – alone – PR! 2:00:51 (9:14)
  7. November: Born to Run 5 mile – with Dad, Jill – 43:12 (8:39)
  8. December: Jingle Bell 5k – with Olga – PR! – 26:00 (8:23)

What a FUN racing year! I ran the fastest races to date and with a lot of different people! I really do love running and racing and I hope to get faster in 2011! My final milage was 675 miles. I’d really like to hit 700 this year but with all of the travelling and moving I have NO clue what May through December will look like! Another fall 1/2 marathon would be fun though 🙂 Dad and I are running the Ocean Drive again- which I’m really excited about! I definitely want to run that one faster than last year!

Looking forward to another healthy and happy running year!

Running in Circles

8 Jan

I went for a run yesterday around Brookdale because it’s the only place in town where the plows did a decent job. I had my heart set on 5 miles in an area that is about 1.6 miles end-to-end… needless to say, it made for a LOT of circles! I ended up running loops around every parking lot I encountered to make it to 5 miles without running my route twice (which is mentally pretty difficult for me).

Overall it was a hard run. I guess that’s what 1.5 weeks of mediocre treadmill running only will do to a girl 😦 It felt great to get out there and work really hard (cardiovascularly) for the first time since the big blizzard after Christmas.

*edited to add: I delayed on posting this because I wanted to include a screen shot of my pacing. When I tried to upload it I couldn’t retrieve it from my history since my Garmin died mid-run!

Other than my run, I pretty much just hung around the house all afternoon and cleaned/organized, updated my music, and relaxed. Sean came over to work out in the late afternoon and then it was off to games for me! I watched Mike play for 3 quarters at South before heading out to Manalapan to watch Kiera’s game. I gave her a little pep talk and convinced her to eat before the game and voila! she played really well! I was so happy for her 🙂 I also got a chance to have a great chat with Mr. Dauber- I missed our chats!

Today I’d like to actually start packing bags and gathering my things that are scattered across the house. I’m going to do my Core Synergystics workout again and then maybe a little yoga. I’m really sore and tight this week… not sure why but I have a feeling it’s from donating blood?

I have a $25 iTunes gift card- any music suggestions?!

Semester Goals and Workout Plan

8 Sep

1. Learn Spanish again! (NUCALLS class 1x/week)

    2. Commit to Yoga and make it a habit (Prana Body Yoga 1x/week)

    3. Get A’s or A-‘s in all of my classes!

    4. Relax, have fun, and enjoy my last semester of Fall Classes! 🙂

Now that I have my schedule pretty figured out, I think my workout schedule is going to look like this:

    • Monday: Strength (Total Body)
    • Tuesday: Speed Run+ Yoga
    • Wednesday: XT (spin class or elliptical) + Ab Ripper X {or} Easy Run
    • Thursday: Tempo Run
    • Friday: Strength (upper body)
    • Saturday: Long Run
    • Sunday: Rest

Of course, I’ll take rest as needed but I’m pretty excited about this plan!

My total body strength workout is geared toward strengthening my legs for running with no added weight. It looks like this:

    1. Reverse Lunge with Static Bicep curls – 10 each
    2. Single Leg Hops – 10 each
    3. Push ups – 15-20
    4. Single Leg Deadlift (Reach) – 10 each
    5. Triceps press backs – 12
    6. Plank with alternating leg/arm lift – 15
    7. Y Squat – 12
    8. Heavy Pants Row – 12
    9. Monster Walks and Side Steps – 20
    10. Leaning Shoulder Raise – 12
    11. Roll-up and V-sit – 25
    12. Lying Side Crunch – 25 each

+ more ab exercises as desired.

These are done in groups of two (super-setted) for 2 sets. The reps are indicated next to each exercise.

Including a 6 minute warm-up on the bike and foam rolling, this entire routine took 45 minutes. I LOVED IT. My legs, triceps, and back were pretty sore the next day but I think my legs will be less sore the more I do it. I have stopped lifting legs in recent weeks and it always kills me when I get back to it!

    That’s all for now!

I’m headed to my first class of Senior Year later 🙂
